Matrimony
MATRIMONY
Matrimony is a lifelong indissoluble covenant between one man and one woman, established by free consent and in the Catholic Church, it is a vocation: a holy calling, a path to holiness, and a "domestic church" where faith is passed on. A covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God.
For Baptized Christians, marriage is a sacrament that provides grace to live out their vocation. The celebration of a marriage is also a liturgical act held in a public liturgy at church. The couple themselves are the ministers of the sacrament, while a priest or deacon is the official witness.
